Description

The old town centre of Trogir is located on a small island separated from the mainland by the Fosa canal and connected by a former drawbridge. On the south side of the old town island and the island of Čiovo runs the Trogirski canal with a bridge to Ciovo only 4.5 m high. Since 1997, the old town island of Trogir has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The place is considered an outstanding example of urban structures.

The Romanesque town of Trogir represents the best preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only on the Adriatic, but in all of Eastern Europe. In the medieval historic centre, partly surrounded by a city wall, there is a castle, a defensive tower, about ten churches and a number of residential buildings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The main sights are: St. Lawrence Cathedral (13th c.)with the main western portal- a masterpiece of the sculptor Radovan (13th c.) and the most important work in the Romanesque-Gothic style in Croatia. The town gate with the wall, Kamerlengo fortress (15th century), Prince's palace (13th century), Cipiko large and small palaces (15th century), town loggia and clock tower (15th century). But the most personal experience is walking through the city, you feel like on a time travel, transported to the Middle Ages, only the cappuccino in the bar brings back the present.
