The nature reserve "Tivat Saline" (Tivatska Solila) was
established in 2008 and is located in the marshland of the Bay of
Tivat between "Odoljenštica and Koložunja" and also includes the
underwater area "Jankove Vode" in Grbalj.
The nature reserve protects rare endangered plant and animal
species and on an area of 150 ha. One of the last habitats of
halophyte vegetation in the eastern part of the Adriatic and one of
the most important points on the migratory corridors of the
Adriatic for birds. Very common birds in the shallow waters of
Solila are cormorants, great crested grebes, coots and duck
species, herons, gray, small, white herons, songbirds such as
wegtails, rock snipes, stonechats, swallows, birds of prey and
reptiles, amphibians, such as the rare smooth newt (Lissotriton
vulgaris ), which lives only in the Balkan Peninsula.
