Description

Miramar means "to look at the sea" and the view is spectacular. The building was not a monastery, but a missionary school built by King James II in 1276. Monks were to learn Arabic here in order to missionize the Orient. In 1487, Mallorca's first printing press was put into operation here.
The Archduke Ludwig Salvator, himself a scholar, was immediately fascinated by the history of the house and its fantastic location, and in 1872 he built a manor house on the foundations of the building. The "Monestir de Miramar", it became the starting point of his Balearic expedition journeys with the "Nixe", the meeting place of poets, artists, scientists, eccentrics and worldly thinkers. Even Ludwig's famous cousin, Empress Elisabeth of Austria - "Sissi" loved this magical place. Surrounded by gardens, olive groves, caves, springs and breathtaking views of the sea.
The site is located between the coast and the shore road about 2km south of the anchorage Cala Foradada.
