Description

The nature reserve covers the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera, including the islands of "Des Freus" with "s'Espalmador" - "s'Espardell" and "Des Penjats".
An area of 15,400 ha (1,800 ha of land and 13,600 ha of marine area).
The protected zone of dune landscapes, beaches, marshes, cliffs, rocky coastal zones, the old basins for salt production and the largest continuous area of seagrass meadows (Neptune grass) in the Mediterranean.
Since 1999, the area of seagrass meadows has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area is the habitat of endangered species and breeding and/or migratory area of various bird species.
The administrative headquarters  is located in Ibiza Town and is also the competent authority for the part of the nature reserve on the island Formentera.
Rules in the Nature Reserve:
It is allowed
- The observation of fauna and flora
- Non-professional photography without leaving the
prescribed paths and
- Anything that does not affect
or harm the park.

Permits are required for:
- Scientific research
- Recreational diving
- Film production and professional
- Photography
- Fire making


It is prohibited to:
- Riding water motorbikes
- Underwater fishing (harpooning)
- Bathing and mud baths in
theLagoon of s'Espalmador
- Anchoring/ mooring at the archipelago
- Removing flora and fauna both
on land and in the marine zone.
- Staying in areas of
salt extraction or salt basins.
- Staying overnight: in tents or vehicles.
- Driving outside marked paths
- Walking through dunes or outside marked.
