Norden is one of the oldest towns in East Frisia. It was first mentioned in a document over 750 years ago. The historic town was an important port until well into the 19th century.

Navigation
The access to the north is first via Greetsiel, so via the lock
of Leysiel, then through the reservoir to Greetsiel. Here you then
turn NE into the Störtebekerkanal, the water depth of the channel
is about.2,m. After about 3 m you reach the lock Westeel. The lock
must be announced before by telephone at the drainage association
Norden (Schöpfwerk). The number of boats to be locked is limited by
the berths available in the harbour of Norden. The lock chamber has
a usable length of 20 m and width of 9 m.
Locking with additional opening of the bascule bridge at the
Leybuchtsiel are limited as follows: daily from 09:00 o'clock to
10:00 o'clock and at 17:00 o'clock.

Over the Norder Tief you can then get to the city centre of Norden
after 4sm.
Berths
In the old harbor basin, the city maintains a dock for about 15 yachts.
