Navigating the Oder:
The middle of the Oder forms the state border between Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany. It is an internal EU border between 2 so-called Schengen full-user states. Water sports enthusiasts are allowed to moor and unmoor at any point on the Oder at their own discretion, provided that this is permitted by the shipping police of both states. The obligation to call at a port approved as a border crossing point is no longer required for EU citizens. Their travel and identity documents are not checked when crossing the border, but it is mandatory to carry identity documents. The same applies to the pleasure craft license and, if applicable, the radiotelephone certificate. A liability insurance document and proof of ownership for the watercraft can be helpful in case of emergency. The import and export regulations between Poland and the other EU countries differ in some cases from the general regulations. The current customs regulations must be observed (see "www.zoll.de").
