Navigation
Approach from about 1.5 miles east of the opening between Little Harbour Cay and High Cay (a.k.a. Frozen Cay). Head west between Little Harbour Cay and the rocks awash one-quarter mile south of the cay. This cut features depths of 5 meters, but should not be attempted when an easterly wind is against an ebb tide. Expect a strong current. There is an inside route from the north for shoaldraft vessels that requires eyeball navigation, as it meanders along the western sides of the islands, around coral reefs, and through sand bar. This is best attempted in ideal conditions only.
Best suited for day use, the anchorages are either shallow, have poor holding, or are exposed to the surges mentioned above - or a combination of all three. If you await the tide, or have a shoal-draft boat, there is an anchorage among the moorings off the settlement on the western shore. You could also anchor out and dinghy into the settlement dock. There is a deep-water anchorage (2 to 4 m) between Cabbage Cay and Little Harbour Cay, but you’ll be rolling about on the hook. Farther inside, there is more shelter between Guano Cay and Cabbage Cay, but there is also less room and less water (1.5 m). West of Cabbage Cay there is 2.5 m over a sandy bottom. All the Cabbage Cay anchorages are open to southerly winds. Shelter can also be had from easterly winds west of Little Harbour Cay’s northwest point. There is good holding in 2 m. Getting here will require the eyeball navigation mentioned above.
