Description

Well protected harbor occupied by mainly local boats and few sailing yachts.
The harbor office is located at the end of the center pier, where also the ferry to Cadiz arrives and departs.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The port can be approached without problems at any time of day. Coming from the northwest, one should, after the "Corrales" reaching up to a half mile were passed, the Pta. de la Morena generously circumnavigate. Note several shallows that are only up to 0.7m deep.

At night, the lighting of the harbor entrance can be difficult to make out, as the naval port is strongly lit in the background.

Berths

Few but sufficient berths on floating finger piers are assigned by the harbor office. To register, it is best to moor at the gas station, which is located immediately at the end of the center pier.

NV Land Guide

The port, located in the southeast of the city, is close to the historic old town. Central points in the old town are the Castillo de Luna with a courtyard worth seeing and the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la O. In the former is the town hall and the tourist information. Worth seeing are the regular weekend weddings that enliven the large square in front of the church.

The town captivates with its winding streets, but also with the long sandy beach that extends to Chipiona. Unique are the heritage-anchored Corrales of Rota, a walled fishing facility that uses the ebb and flow of the tide and whose origins probably date back to Roman times. The Corrales and offshore rocks keep the surf away at medium water levels and allow an ideal spot for surfers and kiters.

In the town, one notices the influence of the immediately adjacent Naval Base with airport, which surrounds the town to the north. Thus, the gastronomy is oriented not only to tourism, but also to the needs of U.S. international soldiers. Even if the influence is obvious, one finds English skills rather little.
