The approach is through the Carolinensieler Balje as far as buoy H23 and then across the dry, bulging tideway to the outer harbor. The western side of the tideway is protected by a breakwater, the northern half of which is silted up. You should not enter the shallow Priel in front of a ferry, as the shallow depth makes it very difficult to maneuver.
The marina in the inland area can be reached via the lock with a sill height of -2.40 m at sea level. The water gauges are located on the west side of the lock entrance. Locking is not possible at water levels below 1.40 m.

Locking times: 15 April to 15 Oct.
Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 20:00 every even hour.
Friday: 08:00 to 20:00 h on the hour.
Saturday: 08:00 to 11:00 h and 13:00 to 20:00 h on the hour.
Sunday: 07:00 to 11:00 h and 13:00 to 20:00 h on the hour.
The lock (together with the bridge) is operated 4 hours before to approx. 4.5 hours after high water. The lock is opened for 5 to 10 minutes in the event of backwater (water level). This time is announced via loudspeaker.
In the period from October 16 to April 14, locks are only operated on weekdays by prior arrangement.

Traditional ships can also sail approx. 1sm further along the "Harle" to the Carolinensiel museum harbor. The bascule bridge "Friedrichsschleuse" must be passed; please contact the Sielhafenmuseum (Tel:+49 4464 8693 0) by telephone to open it.
