Navigation
The approach to the fired harbor is unproblematic day and night (at night in the white sector of Søby pier lights). The incoming and outgoing ferries must be granted right of way.
Berths
For guest berths there is a very good marina in the eastern basin with 2.5 -3.5m water depth. Large yachts are also very good on the east side of the east pier, here the professional shipping has priority and the quay wall is very high. The westl. harbor basins, especially the jetties of fishing vessels and ferries, should not be used by pleasure craft.
From the east pier blows dust and sand from the unpaved pier at appropriate wind direction and strength.
Mooring at...
East pier - few large bollards, many large rings, pipes present
Yacht harbor incl. north pier - bollards
Inner harbor south pier - medium sized rings with pipes
Inner harbor west pier - bollards
Surroundings

NV Land Guide
Søby is not as idyllic as the old trading and shipping towns of Ærøskøbing and Marstal. The small town on the northeast coast of the island of Ærø seems rather busy. It has no sights worth mentioning. However, about seven kilometers south of Søby, one comes across old ramparts and a dilapidated castle near Søby Mill. The massive complex is considered the oldest "preserved" of the Middle Ages. It is interesting to note that the Noor, now called Vitsø, not far from the rampart, was navigable as late as the 17th century and must have formed an ideal natural harbor with a narrow entrance on the west side of Ærø. Unfortunately, the Noor is now a dried up lowland. Findings prove that there was a settlement here by the ramparts as early as the twelfth century, but that it flourished only for a short time. The settlement could not hold its own against Ærøskøbing, which was more protected from westerly winds.
From Søby, the walk along the northeastern high bank of the island to the Skoldnæs lighthouse is recommended.
The church in Bregninge, six kilometers south of Søby, is also worth looking at. It was probably built in the 13th century. The frescoes depicting the Passion of Christ date from 1510.
Ferries depart from Søby to Fåborg and Fynshav. For touring the island of Ærø also offer the year-round free bus services. Dogs are also transported and even bicycles (as far as space is available).
