The approach is possible day and night. From the south, the main

NV Land Guide
The appealing small town with 18,000 inhabitants was first mentioned in 1229. After their wedding, Waldemar the Victorious gave his daughter-in-law, Princess Elenora of Portugal, the towns of Faaborg and Svendborg as a dowry. The second syllable of the town's name indicates that it grew into a town under the protection of a castle. However, historians have not yet been able to find out what happened to the castle. The last written evidence of the castle's existence dates back to the 14th century. Of the protective buildings and ramparts, only the western city gate in Vestergade remains today
Faaborg was granted city rights at the beginning of the 13th
century. During the Middle Ages, the town was plagued by many feuds
and wars, fires and the plague. The Swedish wars of the 17th
century also left their mark, so that today not much remains of the
Faaborg of the late Middle Ages. However, there are very
well-preserved houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Faaborg Museum at Grönnegade 75, which was established in
1910 by the factory owner Mads Rasmussen, is particularly worth a
visit. The museum building is one of the most outstanding examples
of neoclassicism in Denmark. It mainly exhibits the works of Fyn
painters. Contemporary works by internationally renowned artists
are also on display. The public has access to the museum garden.
The former merchant's yard "Den gamle Gaard" in Holkegade 1 is also
a museum. The courtyard was built in 1725 and the exhibition
focuses on city life in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In addition, various pieces of furniture and everyday objects
belonging to Riborg Voigt, Hans Christian Andersen's childhood
sweetheart, are on display. Many museum pieces tell of the overseas
contacts of the trading and shipping town. Faaborg harbor, built
around 1720, was home to one of the largest merchant fleets in
Denmark. The island of Lyø off the coast of Faaborg is also
represented with exhibits.
The "Arrest" located directly on the market square offers an
adventure museum for children too. Among other things, visitors can
experience what it feels like to be a prisoner or follow a
fictional crime story.
The brewery yard at Bryggergården 6 was the largest distillery
on Fyn around 1860 and remained so until it was shut down in 1887.
Today, the brewery courtyard houses the city's historical archive,
the oldest of its kind in Denmark.
The bell tower in Tårnstræde is the city's landmark. The church
that belonged to it was destroyed around 1600. Fynen's largest
carillon can be heard four times a day from the tower.
The Faaborg parish church was originally built around 1500 as
part of a monastery for the Heiligengeistorden. On the altar is the
Bible of King Christian IV from this period. The Kaleko watermill
at Princes Havevej 38, about two kilometers northeast of Faaborg in
the direction of Diernæs, is one of the excursion destinations in
the area. It is the oldest of the remaining mills in Denmark. Its
interior gives an insight into the everyday life of a miller's
family over 100 years ago. The mill, whose water wheel is kept
running, is home to the oldest grinder in the country. Grain was
ground here using water power as early as 1440. The mill is also
furnished with old furniture and household items from the area.
Fynen's toy museum in Millinge was only opened in 1986. From old
Italian dolls to baby dolls from the 1950s, there are hundreds of
dolls on display at Assensvej 279.
The thatched roof on the farm building at Ostrupgårdhof near
Haastrup is the largest in Denmark at 6000 square meters. The farm
is also the only place in Scandinavia today where you can get a
realistic impression of a complete manor complex in the Middle
Ages.
Egeskov Castle near Kvärndrup was built in 1554 on a foundation
of oak piles driven into a lake. The imposing building is open to
the public. Also worth seeing is the Egeskov Vintage Car Museum,
which was set up in a former farm building of the castle. On
display are horse-drawn carriages, motorcycles, cars and even
airplanes. However, the distance from Faaborg to the castle -
following the A8 - is around 20 kilometers. There is a bus
service
Svanninge Bakker is the name of a part of the Fyn Alps to the
north and northwest of Faaborg. You can enjoy the view from a
lookout tower at Tyveknap (Thieves' Knob) 85 meters above sea
level.
