The most remarkable thing about the Baltic Sea spa on Flensburg's doorstep is probably the most beautiful moated castle in Germany. As a temporary royal residence and administrative seat of the Duchy of Glücksburg, it holds an important place in the history of Schleswig-Holstein and Scandinavia. The castle, which was built between 1582 and 1587, is also one of northern Germany's outstanding cultural centers today. An important collection of Dutch tapestries and Flemish leather wallpaper are among the special features inside the historic building. A documentation of the Schleswig-Holstein uprising of 1864, magnificent ceiling frescoes in the castle chapel and a collection of weapons including a bundle rifle from 1640 await visitors. The salon of Princess Adelheid von Hohenlohe-Langenburg, the bedroom of Empress Auguste Viktoria and the Red Hall offer sights from the 16th to the 19th century. The Red Hall on the second floor, which is over 30 meters long, is reminiscent of the dining room of a knight's castle with its continuous vaulted ceiling and original 16th century floor. The coat of arms of the Dukes of Glücksburg is emblazoned above the fireplace. Traditional castle concerts take place during the summer months in the music hall (also known as the White Hall) of the moated castle.

The castle is known as the "cradle of royalty" thanks to Christian IX, who was the first Glücksburg duke to ascend the Danish throne in 1863. He was known as the father-in-law of Europe, as his daughters were married into the English and Russian royal families, a son ascended the Greek royal throne and his grandson became King of Norway.

The name of the castle comes from the motto of Duke Hans the Younger, whose abbreviation "GGGMF" is carved above the portal: God grant happiness with peace. Even though the castle is around four kilometers away from the marina, the unique location with its four towers on the castle lake makes the walk there worthwhile.

A visit to Glücksburg is also recommended by the 600 hectares of forest that reach the shore of the fjord in many places. The idyllic marina is also surrounded by forest. The boats of Germany's most renowned yacht school, the Hanseatic Yacht School, are moored here. The FSC clubhouse offers a magnificent view over the Flensburg Fjord. On the occasion of the regatta events that regularly take place here, the harbor is sometimes crowded.

West of the FSC facilities is a pavilion from the Wilhelminian era, which houses the "Quellental" restaurant, the oldest in the area. Here you can enjoy above-average food with friendly service at moderate prices.

Beautiful lakes and ponds within the large forest area, charming sandy beaches, fjord bays and picturesque steep banks make for a particularly varied landscape. Extensive hiking trails, a nature park with a sika and wild boar enclosure and the forest nature trail are sure to delight nature lovers, as is the forest adventure playground for children.

The planetarium on Philosophenweg near the marina is well worth a visit. It is the only private planetarium in Europe. Around 6000 fixed stars, i.e. all the stars that can be seen with the naked eye in the northern and southern hemispheres on a clear day, shine in its dome. The dates of the events can be found here.

The modern swimming and wellness pool "Fördeland Therme" in Sandwigstraße (5 min walk) is worth mentioning, where sailors of all ages can find an entertaining alternative in heavy weather. An archaeological hiking trail, which makes grave monuments from prehistoric times in Friedeholz accessible, offers a rarely offered shore excursion for those interested. Finds prove that people had already settled here 5000 years ago. However, it has not yet been proven that the legendary Viking chieftain Sven is said to rest under one of the mounds at the harbor.

About half an hour's travel time is required for the fjord steamers that sail from the Sandwig jetty to Denmark. There are also regular boat connections to Flensburg from here.
