NV Cruising Guide
Navigation
Because of the offshore shoals Hoher Grund and Breiter Barg you first run with 349° towards the fairway of Orth (see 13/3). From the first pair of buoys in the fairway (Orth 1), follow the buoyed southern edge of the Gollendorfer Wiek to the fired buoy Lem8 (Fl.R.4s). From here, a fairway marked with poles with a water depth of approx. 2.5m leads to the harbour. At night it is only recommended to enter the harbour with a spotlight because of the unlit channel.
Berths
Guests lie on free places (green signs) with 2,5m water depth.
Surroundings
Limited utilities. The sanitary facilities are secured with a numerical code, which is obtained when paying the port fee.
NV Land Guide
The traditional and picturesque Lemkenhafen is best known for its Jachen Flünk sailing windmill, one of the last in Germany. There were once 17 windmills on Fehmarn, three of which are still standing today. However, the ones in Dänschendorf and Petersdorf are without wings, only the one in Lemkenhafen is still in operation. The Fehmarn chronicler and historian Peter Wiepert saved them from demolition and set up an agricultural museum in the mill, one of the themes of which is mill history. In the meantime, an association runs the mill museum, which is open daily in summer (except Wednesday). When the wind is good, the wings of the mill are set in motion. The inner workings can then be viewed in operation. In 1787 a merchant built the groats and barley mill and exported the groats mainly to Norway. Rowboats were used to bring the groats to the anchored sailing ships and load them. Large granaries, which have now disappeared, dominated the village, which even had town rights until 1510.
Lemkenhafen was the most important shipping and fishing village on the rather rural island of Fehmarn. Every year in February, the Lemkenhafen shipping fair was a turbulent time, when the new crews were hired and people drank heavily. Convivial highlights were the performances of the skippers' dances and the fisherman's sting, where the fishermen launched themselves from their boats into the water with long eel sticks.
Friends of delicate fish dishes get their money's worth in the restaurants at the harbour of the small village. The clubhouse of the Lemkenhafen sailing club with its modern service facilities is also open to guests.
Sightseeing flights over Fehmarn are offered at the small sports airfield at Neujellingsdorf (about 2 km northeast of the harbour)
