NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the harbour is possible day and night; however, it is only recommended for those unfamiliar with the area in calm weather. The port is approached at 175° on the bearing of the leading light (during the day the corner of the house is above the green spot on the pier).

Berths

Guests will find some moorings at the eastern breakwater. The water depth here is about 1.5 m.

Kampeløkke: This small boat harbour between Allinge and Sandvig, where mainly the boats of local part-time fishermen are moored, has water depths of only 0.5 - 1.2 m and is not suitable for yachts.

Surroundings

Supply possibilities are better in nearby Allinge than in Sandvig. Diesel and petrol are available from the BP petrol station (tel. 980600).

NV Land Guide

The northern part of the twin town of Allinge-Sandvig (see also Allinge) has no less charm than the more southern Allinge. Worth mentioning are the well-preserved half-timbered houses in the upper town. The smokehouses at the harbour, the cosy harbour itself and the old, low houses are typical features of the small coastal town. Also noteworthy is Sandvig's beautiful bathing beach with a nearby swimming pool.

Sandvig is a particularly good starting point for hiking the granite massif Hammerknoten. If you follow the paved path to Hammerodde Lighthouse from the bathing beach, you will pass a memorial stone to Bornholm sailors who disappeared without a trace with the training ship "København" in 1929. Along the way, seaward, are the Sandvig redoubts, still built by the Hanseatic League.

The batteries, however, could not prevent Bornholm from falling into enemy hands on several occasions. Near the redoubts is the Thinghaus, the oldest house in the village. The town council used to meet here.

Towards the northwest, on Hammerknoten, lie the two lighthouses Hammeren fyr and Hammerodde fyr. The latter was built because high fog sometimes makes Hammeren fyr lighthouse invisible.

Hammeren fyr is automated and is served from Hammerodde fyr. Between the two lighthouses, in a depression on the coast, stands the ruined "Solomon's Chapel". The chapel was visited in the Middle Ages by many foreign fishermen who were fishing for herring and salting fish for the Catholic Lent. Near the chapel still exists the Salomonsquelle, at the time a healing spring.
