Description

Foreign traffic town with large fishing and commercial port and a large municipal marina north of the city center of Heiligenhafen.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the harbor is unproblematic day and night. Good landmarks such as the former NATO tower at Klaustorf, the silo of Heiligenhafen or the vacation center simplify the orientation. After keeping well clear of the shoal "Wanderhaken" (at night white sector lighthouse Heiligenhafen), a very well buoyed and fired channel with 5m water depth leads to the port.

Achtung: The GRG pile "19 / Warder 2" is to pass north or east when entering or leaving. In the fairway Heiligenhafen is a max. speed of 5.4kn.

Berths

Clear guest berths with the harbormaster. Bridges 1B, 1C, 1D are used by the charter base.

Some berths (specially marked) are in the visibility area of the leading light line 279,2°. These may nott be occupied by sailing yachts, since the masts restrict the visibility of the fire (in case of violation, the skippers concerned may be subject to heavy fines)

In the marina of the Sailors' Association-Heiligenhafen near the fishing port, you will also find guest berths.

Surroundings

The at times very well visited resort offers good supply possibilities (ship chandlery, sail maker and gas station with marine diesel)..
Right at the east pier is the bunker station, where there is the coveted marine diesel. At the fishing port is a ship chandlery.

In the well-maintained washroom you will also find washing machines.

Fueling hours:

Thu 14-20 h
Fri 08-20 h

NV Land Guide

To describe Heiligenhafen as a decidedly cozy harbor town would be to fail to recognize that tourism is the essential economic basis of the small town. During the main season, there is a lot of activity. For anglers, the town is a popular port to set out for the surrounding fishing grounds. Nevertheless, the small town with beautiful historic old town and old marketplace is by no means a bed castle without atmosphere, quite the opposite.

Special hallmark of the Baltic spa are a variety of home-style restaurants with fish specialties: Kippers, maties, halibut, cod, eel, mackerel, plaice ...

Whoever says Heiligenhafen must also say Graswarder. The rugged peninsula off the harbor is of great importance for bird migration. In one to two-hour guided tours, bird watchers convey interesting facts about the bird life of the nature reserve on the basis of display boards, reliefs and bird specimens. Anyone can join the free guided tours, which take place daily at 10:30 am and 3 pm. A café-restaurant on the dune peninsula (Graswarder 13) makes it possible to enjoy tea or coffee with a view of the Sound.

While Graswarder extends from the marina in an easterly direction, Steinwarder lies to the west of it. On it, between an inland lake and the Baltic Sea, a beach promenade leads directly along the beach, which is about four kilometers long.

The vacation center with its hotel towers on the side of the inland lake opposite the northern marina is one of the less tranquil parts of the city, but brings a whole range of sports and leisure opportunities. The "Aktiv-Hus" offers swimming pool, sauna area, wellness and beauty area as well as something for the younger sailors: the little ones experience adventures in the children's land "Treasure Island", teenagers and the young at heart can keep themselves busy with various trendy sports in any weather.

The 700-year-old Heiligenhafen church with stepped gable is one of the sights of the city. The almost life-size sculpture of St. Christopher with the infant Jesus and the wooden sculpture of Adam and Eve are artistic treasures of the house of God in the Kircherstraße. More reveals an information booklet available in the church.

A medieval relic is the "Old Salt Warehouse" in Hafenstraße, today a restaurant of the same name.

The "Karl-Bütje-Museum" in Lauritz-Maßmann-Straße houses, among other things, memorabilia of the life and work of the poet Theodor Storm. His daughter Lisbeth married the Heiligenhafen pastor Gustav Haase in 1879, so Storm had personal ties to Heiligenhafen and met the models for his novella "Hans and Heinz Kirch" here

Hier geht die Post ab. Sehr großer Hafen, alles super sauber und top organisiert. Die Seebrücke ist sehr sehenswert, das umliegendene Naturschutzgebiet ebenfalls. Innenstadt ist alles da, was man benötigt.
