The approach is only possible during the day, as the fire only burns when local fishermen are at sea. It is from the northwest and should not be ventured with more than 1.5 m draft. If there is a strong onshore wind, it is not possible to go in or out. Landmarks are the smokehouses on either side of the harbour with their typical double chimneys.

The harbour should not be confused with the Helligpeder boat harbour to the south, which cannot be recommended to pleasure craft.

Berths

Few berths are available in the narrow inner harbour basin at about 2.5m water depth. However, one must agree with the fishermen, since there are no fixed guest places

Besides fresh water, there are no utilities or sanitation facilities here.

The secluded village with its small harbour is an ideal starting point for the coastal hike to "Jons Kapel" (Jons Chapel), about three kilometres away. The path leading north is one of Bornholm's typical forest coastal stretches. Originally, the path, which stretches almost along the entire west coast, was laid out as a sea rescue path. It facilitated the rescue of shipwrecked people. It winds past caves and along the rugged cliffs. A steep staircase finally leads to the chapel in question. You will look in vain for a building, however. "Jon's Chapel" is nothing more than a large freestanding cliff on the beach, which only gains significance through legend. According to the legend, more than 1000 years ago the monk Jon preached here from the Prædikestolen (preaching chair) to the passing sailors and fishermen. However, he was not able to convince the pagan Vikings of the Christian faith. The monk had wisely chosen the rock jutting out of the gorge in order to be reasonably safe from the attacks of the pagans. His dwelling was a nearby cave.

If you're not tired of hiking yet, you can continue on the coastal path for another three kilometres to the next harbour in the north (see also Vang). The way there leads through the beautiful gorge Biåskindedalen and then past a less beautiful granite mill, the largest on Bornholm.

The village of TegIkås consists of a small harbour, a few low houses and old smokehouses with the typical double chimneys. Due to its sheltered location at the foot of the high and rocky coast, the settlement exudes cosiness. However, if you want to stay here for a longer period of time, you have to be prepared for the lack of supply possibilities. Despite this shortcoming, this harbour town, which lies on a side road with hardly any traffic, can be recommended as a destination.

Helligpeder: The small harbour between TegIkås and Hasle is closed to guest berth holders because it is dangerous to approach without local knowledge. In any case, it would only be suitable for flat-bottomed boats.
