Description

Small, rural fishing and small boat harbour about 5sm west of Sandhammaren.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the fired harbour is possible day and night. The water depth in the entrance is approx. 2.1m. As the harbour has a strong tendency to silting up, shallower water depths - up to 1m - must be expected. Good landmarks are the cliff west of the harbour and the silo of a farm immediately northeast of the harbour.

In strong onshore winds, approaching the harbour is difficult or impossible in corresponding swells

Berths

Guests are moored on the inside of the southern breakwater. However, after consultation with the fishermen, you can also go alongside them. The water depth is 2 - 2,5m. In strong onshore winds the harbour is very turbulent due to swell.

Surroundings

At the harbour there is a bunker station of the fishermen. Otherwise, there are no utilities except for a kiosk and a smokehouse. Apart from the usual sanitary facilities, there is a slipway and an engine workshop.

The mighty ship settlement "Ales Stenar"' on the western ridge of Kåseberga is one of Sweden's most impressive prehistoric sites. A comparison with the British Stonehenge is inevitable. The fascinating coastal location of the giant stone ship prompted the poet Anders Österling to speak of a burial place "where the coast falls down between the sky and the sea". 67 metres long, the ship's setting dedicated to King Ale is 20 metres wide. 58 stones weighing tons were hauled in during the early Iron Age (around 900 AD) to bury the Viking patriarch. If you want to enjoy this place and the view of the sea in silence, you should visit it in the early morning hours or in the evening. During the day, groups of visitors can spoil the atmosphere at the Thing and cult site. Kåseberga itself is an idyllic fishing village with a few fish smokehouses selling fish daily. Protected by a small bay, the ships were still moored in a harbour that consisted only of a few primitive stone piers until 1880. It was not until then that Kåseberga was given a "proper" harbour (in several stages), which has been the station of the sea rescue service since 1945. Backåkra, an old farm on the eastern cliff of Kåseberga, belonged to the former UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld. He bequeathed the farm and its collections to the Swedish Tourist Board. In addition to works of art and antique furniture, a small so-called nature room provides an overview of the flora and fauna of the area. Here you can arm yourself with knowledge for the hike through the Hagestedt Nature Reserve, which lies to the east of the farm. A little further east, the Sandhammeren lighthouse stands on Sweden's largest shifting sands field, which is bound by reforestation. The sea area off this headland was feared. Hidden among the shifting underwater dunes is one of Sweden's largest ship graveyards. When the primitive beacon was replaced by the 30-metre-high lighthouse in 1860, fewer ships were stranded, but still so many that the Sandhammeren lifeboat rescued over 500 people from distress at sea in the following 90 years. The decommissioned lifeboat can be visited at the lifeboat station. It has been replaced by two modern lifeboats. At the harbour there is a kiosk, two smokehouses and a souvenir shop. The freshly smoked fish is to be recommended. In the small village 300 metres away there is a grocer and a restaurant with a café garden.

Leuk klein haventje met water en stroom. Met ooste wind lig je minder beschut. Invaart is redelijk smal
