Description

Small fishing port in the east of the island of the same name.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the harbour is possible day and night via the fairway of Agersøsund. Only the shoal "Østerhoved Flak" and the set nets - which are deployed at times, especially to the south of the harbour - should be kept well clear of.

Berths

The southern harbour is reserved for yachts. If the harbour is busy, you can arrange with the fishermen in the northern part (2.5m water depth).

The ferry dock is closed to pleasure craft.

Surroundings

For such a small place there are good utilities (also shipyard service and fuel).

Ferry to Stigsnæs.

NV Land Guide

Freight traffic, agriculture and fishing are the main sources of income for the approximately 400 inhabitants of Agersö. The island, seven kilometres long and three kilometres wide, is an idyllic gem with good bathing beaches along its 26-kilometre coastline. The pretty village of Agersø By at the harbour offers sufficient supply possibilities, among them a baker, two grocery stores and a financial institution. The intact structure adds to the charm of this cosy village, whose old Dutch mill can be seen from the sea.

The often overcrowded harbour during the summer months shows that Agersø is no less popular than its southern sister Omø. Even the Norwegian Vikings seem to have taken a liking to the island, as the building stone at the Helleholm lighthouse on the southern tip dates from them. It probably served as a landmark for the rough-legged seafarers. A hike there is highly recommended, as is a walk to the bird-rich Egholm in the north of Agersø.
