NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the fired harbour is unproblematic day and night. It is done directly from the sound. The current must be taken into account, which can be very strong, even directly under land.

Berths

There is not much space here, as the harbour is mainly used by local pleasure boats. It is best to moor just behind the eastern breakwater alongside - or with stern anchor or stern buoy at free berths, after consultation with the harbour master. The water depth is about 2m, but the harbour tends to silt up, especially at the entrance, so that shallower depths have to be expected.

Surroundings

In the cozy harbor you will find hardly any services except very simple sanitary facilities. The shopping facilities in the immediate vicinity can be described as good. In addition, there are very good transport connections to the center of Copenhagen.

NV Land Guide

Tårbæk (Taarbæk) has that "certain something", has atmosphere, has cosiness and above all has the intact village structures that Skovshoved, four kilometres to the south, lacks. Only of one thing Tårbæk has too little in the harbour - of the offer of guest berths.

The place benefits from the fact that the coastal road between Helsingør and Copenhagen curves around Tårbæk and the western Jægersborg Animal Park is the green border for the Copenhagen suburb. Expansion was not possible. So the coastal village remained in its substance the old fishing village of bygone days, even if the Copenhageners have taken the reins here in the meantime. In addition to houses in a fantastic residential location on the waterfront, there are nested, small cottages and fishermen's houses near the harbor, all somewhat jazzed up, but tastefully renovated. Directly at the harbour, a café-restaurant with a glazed terrace serves frokost.

Here you have a view of the Sound and the harbour activity. A kiosk, a "Fiskehuset"' and a small ice cream shop are close to the appealing restaurant. 100 metres south of the harbour is the grocery shop "Købmanden i Taarbæk"' and another 150 metres south is the village's tiny bakery shop (editor's note: Delicious sweet stuff!).

One kilometre south of Tårbæk is the entrance to the Dyrehave recreation area, which covers some 1000 hectares. Forest, parkland, deer, the Dyrehavsbakken amusement park and the royal hunting lodge "Eremitagen" (built in 1736 by King Christian Vl.) attract the visitor.

At the course of the river Mühlenau, which flows into the Sound two kilometres north of Tårbæk, the wheels of nine water mills once turned between Strandmühle and the Fure lake. Some of the old buildings are still standing.
