The king's daughter Tora, murdered by her wicked stepmother, gave the name to the cosy place according to legend. The blind and poor Master Frenne and some fishermen found the princess dead on the beach. After they buried the girl, a miracle happened: the blind man could see again. A chapel was built in honour of the later saint, forerunner of today's St. Tora's Church. During a two-hour guided tour that begins at the harbor, guests learn more about Torekov's storied legend.

As in eastern Baastad, tourism dominates the summer daily routine here (especially on the beaches on either side of the harbor), though not as pronounced as there. In addition, Torekov is undoubtedly more idyllic and has some decidedly cosy corners. Narrow, cobbled streets with aged wooden houses and small front gardens dotted with old apple trees are part of the townscape around the harbour.

The quaint museum very close to the moorings - it consists of a boat stern - is a reminder that Torekov was once a thriving seafaring town. The cannons by the museum were purchased in 1797, but presumably never used. The yellow little house on a cliff below the cannons once served as a lookout for pilots.

In the adjacent warm bathhouse, one is said to feel like a new person after a tang bath. By heating, minerals important for the body get into the bath water. After the bath, you are massaged with a bundle of tang.

The ceramist Rosa Ljung, Hotel Kattegat, the café by the harbour, the bungalow village Solsidan (two kilometres to the south), the savings bank, the restaurant and the kiosk by the moorings all profit from the old, well-kept village centre with its red-, blue- and yellow-painted cottages. Jobs are also provided by the ferry service to the island of Hallands Väderö to the west.

A remarkable sight, four kilometres south of Torekov, is Daghög, one of the largest Bronze Age burial mounds anywhere and the most powerful bronze tomb in Skåne (diameter 44 metres, height 4 metres). According to legend, King Dag, who ruled Skåne in Viking times, died in a battle at Skälderviken Bay and was buried in Dagshög with his slain followers.

A walk along the Skaaneleden coastal footpath from Torekov to Vejbystrand is recommended.
