The old fishing cottages of Uggelhuse point to a time when the whole place still lived from fishing. From here Randers was supplied with herring, eels and salmon. But then reservoirs created inland blocked the salmon's path to the spawning grounds, and the particularly heavy pollution of Randers Fjord in the 1960s and 1970s finished off the originally rich fish stock.

Although small successes are being achieved again today in raising fish in the fjord, the paradisiacal days of fishing are a thing of the past. Urbanites have moved in where fishermen once lived. The old structures are gone. Despite all this, Uggelhuse at the fork of the fjord has lost little of its charm. This is largely due to the appealing fjord landscape - the shallow water zones with the reed fields and the bog meadows. The catch is the lack of water depth, which hardly allows you to explore the fjord away from the fairway. The heavy rush hour traffic to Randers is not a plus either. It is unpleasantly noticeable here, where the waterway to Randers becomes as narrow as a small river. Most of the pleasure boaters therefore also end their excursion into the fjord here.

Three excursion destinations, Gammel Estrup Castle, Clausholm Castle and the "Hamlet Memorial Stone", offer themselves south of Uggelhuse. The Renaissance castle of Gammel Estrup was built around 1500 nine kilometres southeast of Uggelhuse and today serves as a Jutland castle museum. During the summer season it is open to visitors in the mornings and afternoons. Guided tours are offered. The inventory of the chambers dates partly from the Middle Ages. A former secret passage with narrow stairs leads from the knights' hall to the alchemists' room in the tower, where the means for eternal youth and boundless wealth were to be produced over steaming concoctions and hissing powders. Jewels of the castle garden are greenhouses dating from around 1750, and the estate's old farmyard is home to the agricultural implements of past generations.

Clausholm Castle, twelve kilometres south of Uggelhuse, is linked to a kidnapping story that stirred noble minds in the early 18th century. It was here that King Frederick IV abducted the daughter of his Grand Chancellor Reventlow, the beautiful Anna Sophie, one summer evening. He married her "on the left hand" because he was already married "on the right hand". This in itself was no cause for social éclat at the time. When his wife died, however, he violated etiquette by immediately marrying Anna Sophie again, namely "on the right hand", without mourning his deceased wife. He then literally crowned it all by crowning Anna Sophie with his own hand. After the king's death she was socially ostracised for this and banished to Clausholm until her death.

Built in 1720, the five-winged castle with its large garden salon and beautiful baroque garden is open to visitors from April to October.

Four kilometres south of Uggelhuse, Shakespeare sends his regards. At Ammelhede, a memorial stone was erected in 1930 in memory of King (H)Amled, who is said to be buried here. The saga of King Hamlet was recorded around 1200 by the Danish historian Saxo and inspired Shakespeare to write his drama "Hamlet". The Danes point out, not without pride, that the main character and "location" of the work are basically Danish, although no source actually proves that.
