Navigation
The fired harbour (F.R) can be approached day and night without any problems. With a north-westerly course one steers towards the harbour, then enters the last 150 m with 260° over a channel marked with two pairs of buoys. The entrance has a target depth of 3.2 m. A good landmark is the church tower, which also serves as a lighthouse.
Berths
Guests lie in the harbour very cramped on 2 - 2.5 m water depth. In the newly built ferry harbour there is only space for a few local pleasure boats. On weekends the harbour is often occupied by sailors from Aarhus. Anchoring: Immediately northeast of the harbour you will find a good anchorage in westerly and northerly winds at a water depth of 2 - 3 m close to shore. Note the cable area marked with two pairs of beacons, from which you should keep clear.
Surroundings
Ordinary sanitary facilities can be found at the harbour master's office. Groceries are available from the island grocer, fresh vegetables from the farms along the road. There is a ferry connection to Hov.
NV Land Guide
Why Tunø is jokingly known among sailors as the island "where the pastor's wife had an affair with the lighthouse keeper" becomes clear with one look at the island church. The church steeple and lighthouse are both in one. The combination is peculiar but appropriate, especially since the church is located on the highest point of the island. At 31 metres above sea level, the fire points the water way to the flat island, which is highly popular with pleasure boaters.
The beautiful, child-friendly beach at the harbour is as much a reason for its popularity as the tranquil village 300 metres inland. In addition, the car-free island attracts visitors with its varied landscape. Knicks between the fields, the island forest "Mosen" on the northern shore and a steep coast (although not very high) on the western shores make up the charm of the small islet, which attracts sailors in such large numbers in high summer that the harbour is occasionally closed due to overcrowding. The likelihood of not finding a mooring is greatest at this time on weekends.
A popular annual jazz festival is held on Tunø in early July. A large marquee at the harbour shows from the sea that there are not many berths - which will probably not stop the jazz fans among the sailors from coming in.
The first building on the way to the village of 100 inhabitants is the village pub at the entrance to the village, with modest offers and the same equipment. The narrow road forks and on the right, a few houses further on, is the aforementioned church with its tower, which has been used as a beacon for 200 years. A late-Gothic sexton's chair and a cupboard altar are among the sights of the church, the oldest parts of which were built as early as the 14th century.
Some half-timbered houses line the two parallel village streets, which merge into one road again before leaving the village. About 100 metres further on, a path branches off to the left to the western tip of the island, just under three kilometres away. Once there, at "Løkke Gaarde", the northern island path leads back to the tarred road and the village, where you can either stock up on provisions at a small shop or buy fresh vegetables from the farmers. The long beaches are also recommended hiking routes, in addition to the many winding paths off the main paths, because you can find many a fossil here.
