Description

Large, modern marina facility just south of the large coal-fired power plant

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the fired harbour is possible day and night. The mighty power station serves as a good landmark. For safety reasons, you should pay attention to the restricted area 2 nm south of the harbour, where ammunition was dumped during World War II. There is a speed limit of 3 nautical miles per hour in the harbour.

Berths

Guests will find good mooring possibilities on free places by arrangement with the harbour master (water depth 2.5 - 3m).

Anchorage:

The quite sheltered anchorage in the northwestern part of Kaløvig - in Løgten Bugt - also offers some mooring buoys of the Danish Sailing Association for mooring.

Surroundings

Due to the close proximity of the coal-fired power plant, the facility is not particularly inviting. However, you will find a good range of services here (including fuel), as well as some groceries at the harbour kiosk. There are good bus connections to Aarhus.

NV Land Guide

In itself, Kaløvig is not an uncomfortable harbour. A row of small wooden cottages, a nice café with a summer terrace, a small ship's accessories shop, a grocer, a nearby pine and birch grove and a beautiful sandy beach dominate the picture, which is, however, permanently disturbed by the coal-fired power station in the immediate vicinity. Guests rarely stray here anyway - probably not least because Kaløvig is "off the beaten track" and harbours such as Nappedam opposite, southern Aarhus and Marselisborg are more attractive.

The harbour is neither a typical rural nor a characteristic suburban facility - rather a mixture of both.

There are no sights worth mentioning in the immediate vicinity. At most, the noble Rosenholm Castle, seven kilometres north of the harbour, is a destination worth visiting (see Nappedam). On the way there, after three kilometres, you pass the windmill of Løgten.

A long beach, about two kilometres long, and a large holiday home area extend south of the harbour. Again south of it begins with "Skæring" already the extensive outskirts of Aarhus.

All in all Kaløvig is not recommended for more than one day stay.
