NV Cruising Guide
Navigation
The approach to the fired harbour (Oc(2)WRG.10s) is possible day
and night. The restricted area NORDHAMNEN HELSINGBORG in front of
the ferry and industrial harbour is to be observed, it may only be
passed through by incoming/outgoing vessels. The entrance to the
Nordhamnen is closed for pleasure boats! Under land at times a
quite strong current (up to 3 Kn) can run. Attention:
The ferries operating between Helsingborg and Elsinore do not show
any consideration for pleasure boating.
Berths
Guests will find moorings close to town on floating jetties with finger pontoons and alongside at 3.5m water depth.
Surroundings
The harbour offers the services of a modern marina; in the town centre there are extensive supply facilities. The ferry port south of the marina is closed to yachts.
NV Land Guide
The city, once hotly contested between Danes and Swedes because of its strategic location, is the most important Swedish port of call for ferry traffic between Denmark and Sweden. It is hard to find any good things about this industrial and commercial city. However, the landmark, the 35 meter high brick tower "Kärnan" at the Stortorg is worth seeing. Those who climb the almost 200 steps of the tower enjoy an excellent view over the city. Not far away, in Norra Storgatan, stands the oldest residential building in the city. The half-timbered building was erected in 1641. The memorial fountain in front of it is dedicated to the medieval astronomer Tycho Brahe (see also Kyrkbacken).
A statue of the Swedish commander Count Magnus Stenbock on the market square commemorates the victory over the Danes in the Battle of Helsingborg in 1710. The city museum on Storgatan, Slottshagen Park, 200 metres to the north of it (with old fortress remains), and Öresund Park, a kilometre north of the city centre, are notable destinations. The art museum immediately west of Öresundpark is also worth a visit. On the northeastern outskirts of the city is the Frederikdals Freilichtmuseum (Frederikdal Open Air Museum) with several historic buildings and an open-air stage.
