Description

The jetties on the south shore of the Ribnitz lake offer many mooring possibilities.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach is only recommended during the day. You steer in the buoyed fairway directly into the harbour.

From buoy pair R 77 and R 98 the fairway, which is shallow at the edges, must not be left if possible. The television tower serves as orientation. The jetty to the east of the harbour can only be reached with the aid of the depth sounder.

Berths

Guests will find berths at approx. 1.7m water depth at the western and northern quay of the marina. The jetties in the southern part are private. In the city harbour, pleasure boats can only moor in free spaces, the passenger ship must not be obstructed.

The eastern part of the city harbour is mainly used by fishermen, the jetty next to it is private. About 300m further east are the jetties of the Segel-Club Ribnitz with some guest places for shallow going boats (depth less than 1 m).

Surroundings

The supply possibilities in the place are good. A privately buoyed fairway leads to Damgarten.

NV Land Guide

Sights are rare in Ribnitz. The Rostock city gate built in 1430, the massive city church and the St. Klarenkloster monastery with amber museum are among them. In the latter (about 200 metres south of the church) the origin and processing of amber is shown. Jewellery production and processing is a special branch of industry in this small town, which has been hit by fires several times in its history. In 1759 alone, for example, the red rooster destroyed over 300 houses.

At the eastern edge of the town, a wide, ice-age meltwater channel separates Ribnitz from Damgarten. The narrow Recknitz River (it is the border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania) meanders through the lowland, at whose bridge the hussars of the freedom fighter Schill fought Napoleonic and Rhine League troops in 1809 (see also Stralsund). "Hafenmeile" is the name given to the promenade near the harbour. The "Pavillon" and the restaurant "Seglerheim" stand out on the waterfront, the latter with its "playful" turrets.
