Description

Small ferry and passenger ship pier on the eastern shore of the Zingster Stream.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach is possible for those unfamiliar with the area only during the day. The Zingster stream is buoyed, but not fired. Depending on wind direction and strength, a current sets up to 3kn. With strong winds from western directions the current sets to the southeast, with storms from the east to the northwest.

Berths

The ferry pier  may not be used by pleasure boats. North of it is the passenger ship mooring with water depths of 2.6 - 4.1m at the head of the jetty. Guests are only allowed to moor there for a short time and not to obstruct the passenger ship. Next to it are jetties for flat-going boats.

Surroundings

Sanitary facilities and drinking water are not available. The next supply possibility is in the village 500m east.

The old ferry pontoon is still sporadically used for cattle transport

NV Land Guide

The only reminders of civilisation are the occasional passenger ship and the parked cars here by the jetty. They belong to the visitors of the holiday resort on the opposite island Große Kirr, who are ferried to the nature-protected island by a launch

The jetty of Müggenburg has an exceptionally beautiful location, a nature-beautiful environment and associated hiking opportunities. "Zingst" is the name given here to the marshy, three-kilometre-wide area between Kleiner Wiek and the Baltic Sea. Hiking trails lead across to the Baltic Sea beach. Heading inland, you pass the village of Müggenburg, which has about a dozen houses, and after a kilometre you are at the road to Zingst.

Hiking east on the only road, you reach the sundic meadows, a very sparsely populated area of meadows, marshes and moors. Annually, around 15,000 cranes gather on the Bock, west of Müggenburg, in October before their flight south. Thousands of migratory birds join them. Greylag and bean geese are among them, as are mute swans, lesser mergansers and whooper swans.

And anyone who feels a hunger for civilisation after so much solitude in nature need only turn northwest on the causeway by the jetty. After a hike of four kilometres with a view of the reed fields of the Zingster Stream, the lively Baltic seaside resort with its cafés and beer gardens welcomes him. Halfway along the route, you pass a moat. It is a planned canal, which Kaiser Wilhelm wanted to build for a ferry connection from Barth to Sweden. However, the construction was discontinued because Sassnitz was chosen as the new ferry location.
