NV Cruising Guide
Navigation
The harbour can be entered by day and night. From the fairway between Dyrön and Åstol you run in deck bearing of the two green leading lights. However, note the shallow at the northern end of the island, marked by a pricke with a south top mark. A current of over 1 knot can set before the harbour entrance.
Berths
Longitudinally at the wooden pier at 4.5 m water depth are about 50 guest places available; free places may also be used after instruction of the harbour master. The harbour offers the best possible protection in all wind directions. Not even an easterly wind causes a swell worth mentioning.
Surroundings
Åstol is still a fishing village and marina. It is a densely built-up village, where the houses stand almost protectively in front of each other so as not to be washed off the rocks by the swell of the Kattegat. The islanders' centuries of cohesion have wrongly given them a reputation for being reclusive. However, you are as welcome here as you would be in any other place. There are regular boat connections with Tjörn and the mainland, and normal bus services from there.
