Navigation

The harbor can be approached both during the day and at night, as the fairway to the harbor is lighted. Although it is quite easy to enter the harbor with the help of the chart, it is safest to go north around Långöarna in strong southwesterly winds and poor visibility. Enter the buoyed and lighted fairway up to the harbor. Note that both the Rastegrund and Furholmsgrund (east of the Strömstad fire) are marked with fairway signs. This is somewhat unusual and quite confusing.

Berths

You can moor alongside or in front of the stern anchor on the floating bridge in the southern part of the harbor basin or on the fixed pier alongside the beach promenade. The water depth is 1 - 4.5 m, with signs showing where it gets shallow. If you are moored in the inner part, you have good swell protection in winds from all directions; outside the pier, the sea can be rough in south to south-westerly winds. In these winds, the wind protection in the harbor is not particularly good either. Pleasure craft are not permitted to moor in the fishing harbor, i.e. on the west side of the pier and on the southern quay.

Surroundings

NV Land Guide

The town was only founded after Bohuslän became Swedish in 1658, even though there had always been a small fishing village here before. Border trade later made this town almost Norwegian again. The beautiful old buildings invite you to take a stroll, even if it can get a little crowded in the summer season.
