NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The well buoyed fairway is not lit and should only be navigated at night with local knowledge. The busy recreational boat traffic in the summer months can possibly make it difficult to enter. Attention:
The ferry in the sound is a rope ferry! Note also the almost constantly setting current.

Berths

You moor alongside the bridge south of the ferry dock on the Hamburgö side. You can also moor at the bridge south of the recreational boatyard on the mainland side. Further north in the sound there is another bridge on the island side where you can go alongside. The water depth is 2 - 4 m. You will find complete protection from swell with wind from all directions. The wind protection is somewhat worse when the wind comes from the NW. Current sets in the sound mostly northerly at a speed of less than 1 knot, stronger in extreme weather conditions.

Surroundings

The excellent harbour in the sound between Hamburgö and the mainland has been used since time immemorial. Freight sailing used to be the main source of income for the village. Nowadays Hamburgö is a provincial centre and well known as a holiday resort. Bus connections from here are primarily to Uddevalla and Strömstad.
