The unlit harbour requires local knowledge to enter after dark. Even during the day, precise navigation is necessary in the narrow waterway. Boats with a draught of more than 2.5 m should not enter without local knowledge. The channel from Håleström to Bassholmen is buoyed, but attention must be paid to the colour and position of the buoys. If you approach Bassholmen via the Gullmarsfjord, you should be aware that the height of the bridge over the Getevik narrows is 15.4 metres. In addition, you have to reckon with a current of up to 3 knots in the narrow Håleström, whose direction changes. At Bålögat, at the confluence with the Koljö fjord, the current can be 3 knots. 1/2 nm to the west a cable ferry crosses. Shortly after, you reach Strömmarna, a narrow and winding passage where there is usually a strong current from changing directions. Beyond Strömmarna, the narrow Kärlingsund is no longer difficult, even if it requires some sharp course changes. From Ellösefjord in the south, a narrow buoyed channel in Snäckedjupet leads to Bassholmen. Here, too, you have to pay attention to the colour and position of the buoys. The current sets from varying directions and, except at Håleströmen, is below one knot.

Berths

Ahead of stern anchor on the outer bridge at 2 - 3 m water depth (keep passenger mooring free). The anchoring ground is good, the location is very sheltered except in strong northwesterly winds. The current is mostly below 1 kn and changes depending on the wind and tides.

Surroundings

Bassholmen is a nature reserve with old cultivated landscape, very beautiful forests and pastures. A ramble is recommended. The museum Föreningen Allmogebåtar in the old shipyard shows a unique collection of utility boats. Some boats are also used to demonstrate on the water how they were used in the past.
