Description

Two large suburban Copenhagen marinas on the north shore of Køge Bay, created by flushing works, with about 1500 berths.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach is recommended to those unfamiliar with the area because of the nets off the coast only during the day. Then it causes no difficulties. Entrance and fairway in the outer harbor 3m target depth, but tend to silting, therefore, at times shallower depths are possible.

Berths

Both harbours are heavily occupied with local yachts, but guests ll find vacancies in 2 - 3m of water.

Surroundings

Except for the extensive services offered by the two marinas (provisions, fuel, repair facilities, sailmaking), there are no supply facilities near the harbour. 1.5 km north of the harbour is the railway to Copenhagen.

NV Land Guide

The area of the double harbour Vallensbaek/Ishøj is - compared to conventional harbours - of extraordinary dimensions. The large expanse of water behind the protective breakwater is particularly suitable for surfing, dinghy sailing or dinghy cruising. The bay, which has been artificially created by washing up, is therefore a paradise for youngsters exploring the area in a dinghy. The entire area, including the long beaches to the north and south of the bay, is part of the large Køgebucht Strandpark project. The huge recreational area in the south of Copenhagen was designed as a recreational area for the Danish port city and gave sailors (together with the also newly created Hundige and Brøndby Strand harbours) around 5000 new berths.

Ishøj Strand and Vallensbæk Strand are suburbs of Copenhagen. A rural or idyllic setting should therefore not be expected around the large-scale recreational area. The offshore harbours are more than a kilometre away from the villages. The distance to the S-Bahn stations (the transport connection to Copenhagen) is up to three kilometres. Around 20 kilometres have to be covered by S-Bahn to the centre of the Danish capital. So if you are mainly interested in Copenhagen itself, you should choose a more central port. However, the resort with its extensive beaches is well worth a visit in its own right, especially if you want to give your children the opportunity to let off steam.
