Description

Large service boatyard with guest berths - the centre for sailing on Sweden's west coast.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The port can be approached at any time. There are three entrances from the west: the northern approach is easy to navigate and preferable if you are unfamiliar with the area or if the weather is bad. If you come from the inner archipelago fairway, you pass the sheltered but busy Albrektssund Channel. The current is often quite strong and the wind is strong. Attention: The passenger ferry between Koön and Marstrandsön has right of way.

Berths

Moorings can be found after consultation with the shipyard.

Surroundings

Marstrand has experienced a lot. In the Middle Ages monks lived here. It became a nest of sin when herring appeared in large quantities, later a free port and there is the Carlsten fortress with a less than honourable past. It was the prison of the notorious thief Lasse-Maja. This was the stomping ground of society and for King Oscar II. For visitors interested in history there is a lot to see. Meanwhile Marstrand is a popular centre for sailing on the west coast. There are many restaurants, entertainment venues and numerous events during the summer months. The scenic island is known for its bathing cliffs.
