Vransko Jezerko Naturreservat

The Nature Park Vransko Jezero (Vrana Lake) is freshwater lake and an ornithological nature reserve with  wide biodiversity, a 30sqkm area -13km long - 2km wide and 4m deep.

It is geologically considered a karst doline filled with freshwater.

Vransko Jezero is fed from underground freshwater springs which have drinking water quality. Therefore, the Romans built an aqueduct, the water pipeline ran from Vrana to Zadar (about.32km) and supplied the city with water. Another part of the natural water flows through underground channels into the Pirovački Zaljev. Until the middle of the 18th century the lake covered a much larger area. With the 800m long "Prosika Canal" to Pirovacki Zaljev (1770), the water level was lowered by about 3m and the swampy area in the north was drained and used as pasture land. A small harbor basin is located on the canal on the lake side.

Not only ornithologists and anglers enjoy the Vransko Jezero Nature Park, but also walkers and cyclists enjoy the nature at the lake. A path of about 30 km leads around the lake with various viewpoints.

The entrance fee to the Nature Park Vransko Jezero is 3,- €/day, a fishing license 10,- €/day, you can also rent kayaks or book an ornithological guided tour.

256 different bird species have been registered here in the Nature Park, of which 100 species  nest in the vicinity of the park. The park is also an important resting and feeding place for many endangered European birds and over 100,000 waterfowl spend the winter here.
