Description

Old fishing village  with traditional Dalmatian stone houses in narrow streets and a palm-lined waterfront. Today the place lives from tourism and no longer from agriculture and fishing. The modern part of Rogoznica has expanded to the mainland and the island has been connected since the 19th century with a 250m long causeway dividing the Uvala Soline.

In 1390, the first settlers arrived in what is now the modern part of the village on the mainland side of Rogoznica.., but there are records that the region was settled by Romans and Illyrians even before that.

When the conquests of the Ottoman Empire began in Dalmatia, which belonged to Venice, the population from other areas fled to the island of Kopara in 1580 to find protection from the invading Turks. After a long period of peace, the fishing village was occupied at the beginning of the 19th century by Napoleonic troops, who built a fortress on the island of Kopara.  After the wars subsided, at the end of the 19th century, the dam was built.
