Description

Mali Ston, historical fortified town in the south of the Peljesac peninsula. Today the place is known for its beautiful old town and oyster farming.

The small, shallow harbour is protected with a breakwater. The entrance in the north of the breakwater is only 0.3m, towards the south it gets deeper on the inside and at the southern head, at the south entrance the breakwater has 2.1m water depth. In the south entrance and on the opposite side by the defence tower are also 2.1m WT. Here is a good guest place, but unfortunately mostly excursion boats are moored here and then you can only anchor in front of the harbour. The anchorage ground on 3-4m water depth is well holding mud, but with Bora it is here not well protected.

The place Luka further west is then a better solution, here is a protected anchorage between the mussel farms. The walk from Luka to Mali Ston takes 20 minutes. There are no supermarkets in Mali Ston, but several fish and shellfish restaurants.

Mali Ston a historic fortified town with the defence tower at the harbour was an outpost of the medieval Republic of Dubrovnik.Construction of the wall to Mali Ston began in 1358, across the narrowest part of the peninsula. It was intended to secure the salt lagoons, the most important sources of income for the Republic of Dubrovnik. Today, it is one of the best-preserved fortification systems in the world and is known as the "European Wall of China".
