The Küsten Canal (Coastal Canal) links the rivers Ems and Weser in the inland of northern Germany. The canal is a national waterway with 69,56km length, it is 3,50m deep and 4,50m vertical clearance at normal water level. The max. draft for vessels from km 1,71 (lock of Oldenburg) to km 64,0 (Dörpen) is 2,70m. Max. speed is 10 to 8km/h, depending on the vessels size and draft. The canal has 2 locks, in Oldenburg and Dörpen. The rise at the lock in Oldenburg can be up to 5,40m depending on the tide and 1,40m at the lock in Dörpen. It is crossed by 2 railway bridges and 28 street and way bridges, 1 pedestrian bridge as well as 2 saftey gates. Operating Times lock Oldenburg: VHF Ch20 01.01.-31.12.
