The Wadden Sea area in the North Sea off the Dutch, German and Danish coasts is a sensitive sea area recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as requiring special protection. Anyone navigating in or near such an area is expected to take special care to avoid such damage. This includes not discharging waste and not causing harm to the marine environment and the organisms that live in it.
