Krapanj

Krapanj - in the north of the only 7m high  island is the hotel Spongiola with jetties for guests with about 2m water depth. But you can also anchor well in front of the hotel. The hotel welcomes guests in the restaurant and you can visit the museum in the hotel. The typical dishes of the region are octopus risotto, octopus potato salad and grilled fish. 

The small konoba "Ronila" directly at the jetty is an absolute insider tip. Very tasty food for a fantastic price. Very good value for money.

The wide pier  further south is the ferry pier for the island and  a small local small boat harbour.

 In the bay on the south-east side of the island is a small, shallow local harbour (0.4m water depth).

 The population of the island used to live from sponge diving and even today the sponges are still sought-after items for cosmetics. The Krapanj Monastery Museum has an exhibition about sponge diving, up to 40m deep was dived and several times a day. There is also a "sponge factory", here the sponges are cleaned and processed and made ready for sale. The island was relatively uninhabited until the 15th century, when a nobleman from Bribir bought the island and built the Monastery of the Holy Cross with a church in 1523. When the Ottomans invaded in the 16th century, many people fled to the island and a small town with a city wall was built.
