Navigation

Both Chub Cay and Frazer’s Hog are best approached from the deep waters of Northwest Channel. Chub Cay, identifiable from a distance by the aero beacon and BaTelCo tower, is easily approached from southwest of Lower Chub Point, marked by a flashing white and red beacon. Steer through the marked 3,8 m dredged channel on a northeasterly course. A hazard to the west of the entrance channel is Mama Rhoda Rock, which is encircled by a dangerous reef. Don’t shortcut the approach from the west. Reefs also line the south shore of Chub Cay. From the east, you can turn north for Frazer’s Hog Cay (see chart C9) after passing west of Bird Cay. From the west, clear Diamond Cay before making the turn north for Frazer’s Hog Cay. The shoal on the island’s southeast point is a hazard; don’t cut the western approach too closely. A channel at the east shore generally carries 2 to 4 m, but there is a shoal about three-quarters mile north of the southeast point. The eastern side of the channel is a visible expanse of shifting sandbars.

Berths

The Chub Cay Club offers slips, gas and diesel fuel, and some provisions. On Frazer’s Hog Cay, the Berry Islands Club has slips and limited gas, plus a restaurant (see NV Charts Reg. 9.1 chart B9).
